Aare Böötle

The perfect way to spend a hot summers day, floating for hours on end down the crystal clear mountain river, the Aare. Starting in Thun and floating until Bern, stopping half way for a barbecue on the banks of the river.

It took us about four and a half hours, including the stop for lunch, to reach Bern. The water was uncharacteristically warm at a balmy 21C degrees, which meant it was possible to float half submerged in the water for hours on end. I lay floating, staring straight down at the perfectly smooth river stones which whizzed beneath me, pinks greens and greys all blurring into one as we floated with the current.

Banked by green trees and with a view of the alps in the distance, it was a perfect way to spend the day.

This looks blissful! Definitely putting it on my next Euro trip list 🙂
